Excel Secondary School, Maracha is a Christian school. It aims to assist students in forming noble Christian character, provide an educational experience that promotes independent and reflective thinking, and develop the ability to cope with a changing world and the demands of society.

These rules and regulations are established to create an orderly environment that supports teaching, learning, personal development and responsible behaviour.

Important: Every student who accepts admission into Excel Secondary School, Maracha is expected to abide by the school's rules and regulations. Failure to observe them may result in disciplinary action in accordance with school procedures.

School Rules and Regulations

Respect for Authority Students are required to respond promptly and respectfully to reasonable instructions from the Principal, teaching staff, non-teaching staff, prefects, parents, visitors and other authorized persons. Failure to comply may result in disciplinary action, including suspension.

Protection of School Property Writing or drawing on walls, classrooms, dormitories, desks, chairs, tables or other school property is prohibited. The offender may be required to repair or restore the affected property and may face further disciplinary action.

Co-curricular Activities Students are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular activities. School rules apply during games, sports and other activities both within and outside the school.

Drugs and Substance Abuse The use or possession of prohibited drugs and substances, including alcohol, marijuana, opium, tobacco, cocaine and similar substances, is not allowed. Serious violations may lead to suspension or dismissal.

Language, Conduct and Sexual Misconduct Obscene or abusive language, sexual harassment, use of prohibited signs or symbols, and other forms of serious misconduct are prohibited and may result in suspension or dismissal in accordance with school disciplinary procedures.

School Fees and Financial Obligations School fees and other approved debts must be paid through the designated school bank account before reporting to school. Students with outstanding fees may be sent home in accordance with school policy.

Theft Theft or unauthorized taking of another person's property is not tolerated. A student found responsible may face suspension or dismissal.

Official Language English is the official language of communication in school. Kiswahili and French are the other acceptable languages specified by the school. Failure to comply may attract disciplinary action.

Academic Standards Students are expected to meet the academic requirements of the school. Where a student does not meet the required academic standard, the school may advise the student to repeat or discontinue according to applicable school procedures.

Prep Time Silence must be maintained during preparation and study time. Students must remain in their designated places unless permission to leave has been granted.

Subject Combinations Students may not change their subject combination without authorization from the appropriate school authority.

Medical Attention Students requiring medical attention should report to the house parent, teacher on duty or school nurse for first aid. Complicated cases may be referred to a hospital at the parent's expense.

Medical Examination Students may be required to undergo medical examination at least once each term. Students who fail to attend a scheduled examination may be required to meet the associated cost of another examination.

Cleanliness and Sanitation Students must keep dormitories, classrooms, study areas, sanitary facilities and the school environment clean. Every student has a responsibility to help keep the school free from litter.

School Meals and Special Diets The school provides a reasonable diet for students. Students requiring a special diet should provide appropriate medical documentation from a recognized medical practitioner. Additional costs may be met by the parent or guardian.

School Trees and Fruits Students may not pick fruit from trees within the school compound without permission.

Proper School Uniform School uniform must be worn properly during school functions. Students must not deliberately alter, fold, write on, improperly tuck or otherwise misuse the school uniform.

Prohibited Clothing Jeans, T-shirts bearing inappropriate writings or drawings, uniforms belonging to other schools and unauthorized institutional attire are not permitted.

Dress and Appearance Make-up, dresses with unnecessary slits, mini-dresses, excessively tight clothing and other inappropriate attire are prohibited within the school.

Official Outings T-shirts may not be worn for official school outings unless permission has been granted.

Alteration of Uniform Slimming, shortening or unauthorized modification of school uniform may result in the parent or guardian being contacted, replacement of the uniform being required, or other disciplinary action in serious cases.

School Entry and Exit Students must enter and leave the school through the main gate. Leaving the school compound without permission is prohibited and may result in serious disciplinary action.

Hair and Personal Appearance Students must maintain a short, neat and smart hairstyle. Unauthorized bleaching, dyeing, styled cuts and painting of nails, eyebrows or eyelashes are not permitted.

Leave of Absence Applications for leave should be submitted to the Principal on the day before the leave is required. Applications that do not follow the required procedure may be rejected.

Romantic Relationships Students are expected to maintain appropriate conduct and relationships consistent with the school's Christian values and student discipline policies.

Use of Doors and Windows Students must use designated doors as official entrances and exits from dormitories and classrooms. Jumping through windows is prohibited.

Fighting, Bullying and Harassment Fighting, bullying, molesting or otherwise harming another student is a serious offence and will attract severe disciplinary action.

Electronic Devices Music systems, radios, mobile phones, cameras, earphones and similar devices are not allowed unless specifically authorized by the school. Unauthorized devices may be confiscated in accordance with school procedures.

Care of School Property Students must handle school property with the utmost care. A student responsible for loss or damage may be required to replace or repair the affected property.

Communal and House Work House and communal work is compulsory for all students. Failure to participate may result in disciplinary action.

Lights Out and Sleeping Hours Students are expected to be in their beds between the lights-out time and the waking-up bell.

Punctuality and Attendance Students must attend classes, meals, chapel, communal work, games and assemblies punctually unless permission to be absent has been granted.

Teachers' Quarters Teachers' quarters are out of bounds to students unless permission has been granted.

School Mattress The school provides a mattress to each new student. Students are expected to take full responsibility for the mattress assigned to them throughout their time at school.

Visitors and Parent/Guardian Visits

To maintain security, order and the smooth running of academic activities, all visitors must follow the school's visitor requirements.

Class Time

Visitors are not entertained during class time.

Parent & Guardian Visits

Parents and guardians may visit their children once around the middle of the term, normally between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., as communicated by the school administration.

Permission Required

No student may meet a parent or guardian without permission from an authorized teacher.

Other Visitors

Visitors other than registered parents or guardians should have an authorized letter and valid identification from the registered parent or guardian.

Discipline and Compliance

The purpose of school rules is to promote discipline, responsibility, respect and a safe environment where every student can learn and develop.

Depending on the nature and seriousness of an offence, the school may apply appropriate disciplinary measures in accordance with its established procedures.

Student Responsibility: Students are expected to understand the rules, follow instructions, respect members of the school community and accept responsibility for their actions.
